When Yoga Poses Turn Dangerous

Cobra: Not engaging the core; jerking the upper body back as far as possible
Vinyasa: Rushing through each movement rather than taking the time to do them correctly
Forward fold: locking the knees
Tree pose: shrugging shoulders around the ears, which strains the neck
How to Practice Safely:
Lower Back: keep your navel drawn back; be mindful of abdominal engagement
Neck: don’t shrug your shoulders around your ears
Knees: make sure you’re not hyperextending or torqueing your knees
